A night bus to Sukhothai

The North of Thailand is simply beautiful; mountainous giants, luscious jungle and friendly locals are just a few reasons as to why I love it so much. Having only been to Chiang Mai and Pai; my experience in the North is pretty lacking, add to the fact that Joe and I are moving to the deep South in October, we will be an 11 hour ride to Bangkok add another 8-14 hours for the North… which leaves me in a bit of a pickle.

Spending my weekend on a bus isn’t really my idea of a fun time BUT having said that, it’s kinda now or never. I either see the North now while I still live ‘relatively’ close- if you call relatively close 200+ miles…or never. I’m choosing the former, so I will spend my next few Friday nights sleeping on a bus and my entire Sundays will be spend being agonisingly bored doing the same thing- for a girl who travels often I sure do hate it.

Sukhothai has been on my radar for a while now; I’ve wanted to see if the entire time we’ve lived here but we’ve always stood by the fact that it’s simply too far for a weekend trip…apparently not. Off we went. Sukhothai DID NOT disappoint and is quite possibly my favourite place in Thailand thus far. Sukhothai combines the best aspects of some lovely places and in turn creates a super attraction; the bicycle routes of the Ancient City- Samutprakarn, the temple ruins of Ayutthaya, the Khmer temples of Siem Reap-Cambodia and the countryside of Pai. This place is simply stunning and I defy all of you not to visit- you will not regret it. Was it worth the 3 hour sleep on Friday night? Absolutely! Was it worth spending all day Sunday on a bus? Hell yes!

Here’s to more night buses, I cannot wait to explore the North even further.
